What extraordinary service Cam. I understand now that he was as much a born soldier as a highly trained and experienced soldier too. Gallipoli was not so much an unmasking of a genius but synergy of potential, circumstance and necessity. Thanks for the post.

Indeed, he was James. It's quite something, when just a lad serving in the Border Horse, he stood out in a regiment that was full of old campaigners. His testimonials located in the Zimbabwe Archives were a valuable historical find. I always felt that had he survived Gallipoli he would have commanded a battalion on the Western Front.
