My First Post
Cam Simpson, a History Buff's welcome to his Substack Page
So, here it is, my first post on Substack which I am very excited about.
Many of you may know me from my books as well as script writing and co-presenting on Chris Parkinson’s Red Coat History channel on YouTube. I’ll post links to these later as well as a brief summary of the video content. If you are a fanatical history buff, these will be right up your street.
Military History has always been part of my life. Even when just a young lad as most kids were spending their pocket money on football cards, I was saving up to buy regimental and official histories.
My love for military history has taken me on a fantastic journey and even when I was serving in the Army, I was researching the soldiers themselves that essentially made-up the DNA of regiments and units. My first book ‘Magyar’s Boys’ involved researching every member of the 8th Light Horse Regiment, but in the pre-digital days, such was my obsession for understanding who these men were.
My current research has ranged from the Zulu War through to WW2 and indeed I am always looking for the untold stories and getting to the facts through primary archival material. How I miss the Archives in Cape Town now that my family has relocated back to Australia!
Over the next few months, I’m planning to post some interesting stories and beyond that, maintain a consistent flow of fascinating and well researched posts.
Your support is greatly appreciated.
Let’s get this thing going!

Cam, you have a library of military knowledge that underpins statecraft.
I am glad that you have this portal to share it with the wider world.
I look forward to following the stories.
